Cathaoirleach welcomes students to Council Chamber

Cathaoirleach of Greystones Lourda Scott welcomes secondary students to the Council Chamber.

Speaking after the monthly Greystones District meeting Scott said. "I invited  representatives from the 3 Student Councils to present their report from the inaugural Trilateral Student Congress that I had the pleasure of attending earlier in the year. I believe this is the first time we have had a formal presentation directly from the youth of the district. This was a historic first as while we often talk about young people in the Chamber, we never hear directly from them.

In an excellent presentation, professionally delivered and with suggested solutions, they told us what they need from our District.

They had full support from all Councillors and I look forward to bringing issues they identified to other stakeholders such as Go Ahead and Irish Rail.

I spoke last night about the need to keep this communication line open as particularly with public consultation pieces, we don't often hear the voice og young people represented, which isn't fair. They are a very important part of our community and we want to hear what they think. I hope that this is just the start. In the meantime I am.available to visit any school amd speak to their Student Council directly.  Please get in touch."
